Andover Sound is an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting from studios in East Street, Andover, and serving North West Hampshire and parts of East Wiltshire.
The station was launched in May 2008 by former ITV Meridian news anchor Ian Axton, who owns 80% of the company. The remaining 20% is owned by Tindle Radio.
In July 2009 the station won a New York Festivals Radio Award in the 'News/Documentary Special' category for the programme 'Remembering Jamie' - a 30 minute documentary about the sudden death of a local teenager.
Andover Sound bought Kick FM, a radio station in West Berkshire, in August 2009. From 7 am on 5 October 2009 Kick FM began broadcasting as Newbury Sound. In December 2009, Andover Sound was named as the Radio Academy South Station of the Year.
In April 2010 Andover Sound was nominated for two Sony Radio Academy Awards. The radio station was named in the Station of the Year (300,000 or fewer listeners) category and the Andover Sound News Team, made up of news editor Ben McGrail and journalist Faye Marsh, was nominated in the News Journalist of the Year Category.[1][2]
In June 2010 the radio station was named as the Arqiva Commercial Radio Station of the Year (300,000 or fewer listeners).[1][3]
In August 2011, Andover Sound along with Newbury Sound were sold to Celador Radio.
